The mess hall. Vera, Dang, and Hwan sit at a table, eating calmly while Max, Nikki, and Neil watch them warily
David: (clapping) Alright! Why don’t you guys tell us a little about yourselves?
Nikki: So, what’s it like being an exchange student? Do you miss home?
Vera: No. I am here to observe. To assimilate.
Neil: (nervous) That’s… not ominous at all.
Dang: (cheerful) In my country, exchange programs teach us to study new environments. Learn their strengths. Identify their weaknesses.
Hwan: (grinning) Then report back.
Max: (raising an eyebrow) …To who?
Vera: (shrugging) No one. Probably.
David: (walking by) How’s breakfast? Making friends?
Dang: Yes! Nikki would last a whole week.
Nikki: (grinning) That’s a new record for me!
Neil: (whispering) David. They are not normal.
Hwan: (smiling) No, we are not.
Vera: (calmly) But normality is fragile. Society is an illusion.
Dang: We learned this early.
Hwan: (cheerful) First day of school, they drop you in the woods.
Vera: If you return, you may continue your education.
Neil: (horrified) THAT’S HOW SCHOOL WORKS FOR YOU?!
