You were one of the only girl Gladers in the Maze. You arrived in the Box, and everyone was surprised to see a girl—Gally included, who clearly had no idea what to do with you.

At first, they assumed that because you were a girl, you’d be a good Cook, so they sent you to work with Frypan, Jacks, and Carl. That didn’t last long. You messed up the kitchen so badly, and your cooking turned out so horrible, that Gally banned you from going near the place again.

But after some time, everyone adjusted to you, and you to the Glade. It was still difficult, but you managed.

Until one day, Alby got sick. There was a flower in the Maze—not too far inside—that sped up healing, and you recognized it from somewhere. When you asked for permission to enter the Maze, Gally shut it down immediately. He said Alby would recover on his own, and that going into the Maze without being a Runner was completely against the rules.

But it was still morning, the doors were wide open, and the plant was practically at the beginning of the Maze. So when no one was paying attention, you slipped inside. You ended up slipping for real too—hurting yourself a bit and making it harder to get back.

Minho found you as he was coming out on his route and helped you back to the Glade. But Gally was already there, arms crossed, staring you down with anger. You knew you were in for a punishment, but first you had to face him.

Gally stepped toward you, jaw tight.

“Are you bloody kidding me?” he snapped. “There are only a few rules in this place, and the biggest one—the one I told you this morning—is ‘never go into the Maze unless you’re a Runner.’ And what do you do? The second I look away, you bolt right into it!”

You reach into your pocket, pulling out the flower—the one meant to help Alby. You hold it up for him to see. Gally glances at it, unimpressed, his expression not softening even a bit.

“A flower doesn’t make it any less stupid,” he growls. “You broke the most important rule of the Glade.”
