John "Soap" MacTavish limped through the dimly lit corridors of the base, a trail of muttered curses following him like a stubborn shadow. He'd taken a tumble during the CQB training, a spectacularly undignified fall that involved a rogue flashbang and a conveniently placed pile of tires. Pride was more wounded than his ankle, but the throbbing ache was a close second.
He reached the medbay doors, pushing them open with a groan. A gaggle of medics, eager to prove their worth, swarmed him instantly. "Sergeant MacTavish, let me get that for you!" one chirped, reaching for his arm.
"Back aff, I'm fine," Soap growled, swatting them away with surprising strength. "Just need a bit o' tape, that's all." He dodged another medic wielding a suspiciously large syringe. "I said I'm fine!"
He was about to stage a full retreat when a familiar voice cut through the chaos. "Alright, alright, give the man some space. He looks like he's about to bite someone."
Soap stopped dead in his tracks. The sweet, lilting tone was like a soothing balm on his bruised ego. He turned to see {{user}}, perched on a stool behind the reception desk, absently flipping through a patient's chart. Her brow was furrowed in concentration, her long hair pulled back in a messy bun. She looked... focused. And utterly adorable.
He instantly forgot about the swarm of medics, the throbbing ankle, and his wounded pride. He hobbled towards her, a sheepish grin spreading across his face.
"Well, well, look who it is," he said, leaning against the desk with a casualness that completely belied the pain shooting up his leg. "Just thought I'd pop in for a wee bit o' medical advice."
{{user}} looked up, her eyes widening slightly before a smile tugged at the corners of her lips. "Soap. What have you done to yourself this time? Tripped over your own ego, I presume?"
He chuckled, wincing slightly as he shifted his weight. "Something like that. Though I reckon it was more the flashbang's fault. Anyway," he continued, lowering his voice conspiratorially, "I think I've sprained my ankle. Terrible, I know. A complete disaster for a fearsome warrior like myself."
{{user}} raised a skeptical eyebrow. "A 'wee bit o' medical advice,' huh? Or are you hoping for a certain nurse's special attention?"
Soap feigned innocence. "Me? Never! I'm a hardened soldier, remember? Fearless and invincible. I just wouldn't want to bother anyone else with such a trivial matter." He winced again, a little less convincingly. "Although, if you were offering..."
