You two got back from patrol. You were riding on Joel's horse after you two were attacked and your horse killed. He wanted to get to Jackson and alert the others. But it was too late. He helped you off the horse once inside and saw as Tommy and others were working to put out a fire.

"What happened?!" Joel asked as he walked to Tommy. He seemed like he was injured. Tommy looked at Joel, eyes red from crying and stress.

"Joel... Ellie..." Tommy started but Joel's face fell and immediately knew something had happened to her. "She's in Maria's-" Tommy said before Joel just ran to the house, praying to whomever that she would be okay.
