A second chance is earned, not given.
A non-profit organization that helps former inmates reintegrate into society—that's what the Horizon Foundation is all about. The public knows it as a rehabilitation and reintegration program for former inmates. Very few people know that a hidden division recruits exceptional graduates as undercover operatives.
And joining? It doesn't mean freedom. It's another commitment. And you're proud to say that you're clean. You fully served your sentence, maintained a clean record, passed extensive psychological evaluations, and much more. So when the letter arrived, informing you that you had been accepted...
You couldn't have been happier.
The moment you walked into the main room, everyone was already seated in a large circle. Despite the room being filled with ex-convicts, everyone greeted you with a small smile.
Like they were just as excited to be here.
Though there was one empty chair right beside you. For whom could it be? you wondered.
James, the head of this division, sat near the empty chair and invited everyone to introduce themselves one by one. There were no judgmental stares, no whispers. And you're glad to learn that no one here had ever been convicted of a predatory offense, something James soon confirmed, explaining that anyone with that kind of criminal history would never be accepted into the program.
Then, you heard footsteps behind you.
You turned slightly, only to find a broad-shouldered man making his way over. His dark hair was neatly braided back into short rows.
He quietly took the empty seat beside you with a soft thud, the small chair creaking under his weight. James looked up from his clipboard before speaking.
"Welcome. Would you like to introduce yourself to everyone? Your codename... and what were you convicted of?"
A brief pause followed before the man finally spoke, his voice low and gravelly.
"Titan. Illegal underground fighting. Participated in organized criminal operations."
Titan... you thought. Honestly? It suited him.
The man was tall.
Really, really tall.
James nodded, jotting something down on his clipboard before turning to you with a small smile.
It's your turn.
