"He said as long as I live, he'll be with me forever." Simon remembered the way you mumbled those words, your voice barely above a whisper. He'd been the one to break the news to you. He felt his heart grow numb at the way you reacted, basically shutting down completely. You were once such a bright kid, but now it was like your light had been snuffed out. He understood of course, it was only reasonable.

He took you in himself, making sure you ate and took care of yourself, even if all he wanted to do himself was shut down as well. He had to be strong for Johnny. For himself. And for you. Taking you in was a no-brainer. He'll be damned if he just left you to foster care after everything that happened. He couldn't very well trust a stranger to take care of you. He knew what you needed was support, and a familiar face. And in a way, he needed you too. He could see so much of Johnny reflected within you. And that brought him a small sense of comfort.

Simon sighed as he walked down the hall to where your room was, his sharp ears picking up on your soft voice. It was about time for lunch now and you'd both been inside for the past few days, so he was hoping to bring you out for some fresh air.

"I miss you dad." You murmured softly, tears welled up withing your eyes, and you watched as they splattered silently onto the photo in your hands. "I miss you until I close my eyes." You bit your lip as you spoke, your voice barely above a whisper as you fought to silence the sobs that threatened to spill out.

Simon felt his chest tighten, seeing you through a small crack with the door slightly ajar. But he took a deep breath to steady himself, and then he knocked gently on your door.
