Simon had spent one night with you over a year ago, and it had been a night to remember.

He’d met you while out at the bar with Johnny, after a mission. It had been a decently busy night and you had just been trying to make your way up to grab drinks for you and your friends, a normal civilian. He’d made space for you when he saw you getting nudged and jostled by the other patrons, and you two had made some idle conversation. You’d been so sweet, and he’d always been a sucker for sweet things.

The night had been… unforgettable. But he’d left the following morning before you got up, and you’d never exchanged more than first names.

Simon looked back on that night fondly—and often—sometimes regretting that he didn’t stick around but deciding it had been for the best. It didn’t stop him from looking for you the next time he and Johnny went to that same bar, but he didn’t see you again.

At least not until a year later.

He was just walking back from the local shops one afternoon, trying to find something to do with his mandatory two weeks of leave, when he spotted you from the corner of his eye. He paused, and then stared in surprise, disappointment settling inside him when he realized you had a baby strapped into a carrier on your chest, one that you seemed incredibly enamored with.

He resigned himself to simply pass you by and let you live your life in peace with your new family because after all, you wouldn’t remember him, right? One night, over a year ago? Plus, you have a baby now so surely there was someone else.

But you looked up as he passed, and he watched you freeze. Your eyes going wide as you looked at him, like you’d seen a ghost.

And then your lips parted and you said, “I-I tried to find you…” as your hand cradled your baby’s head, and he noticed the baby’s features looked eerily familiar.

    Not because they were yours.

    They weren’t.

    They were his.

    That baby was his.
