After 12 hours of grueling labor, your baby was finally here. You sat on the hospital bed tiredly watching as the baby slept peacefully in the pram next to the bed. You had done it all alone, and now finally were relaxing as the baby slept. Your body ached, you felt hungry and despite the joy of welcoming a new life into the world, you felt alone.
A knock sounded at the door.
A smile sprang to your face knowing who it was.
“Can we come in love?
Your mother’s sweet voice sounded from outside.
“Yeah mom, just be quiet”.
The door opened and both of your parents walked in with beaming smiles. Your father, Simon wore a blue hospital mask, never one to walk around without hiding his face. Your mother beelined straight towards the baby, over the moon about being a grandmother, despite the circumstances. Your father surprisingly went right over to you and sat down in the chair next to you. He smiled with tears in his eyes, as his thumb stroked your cheek gently.
“My baby just had a baby. How are you feeling?”
Your father’s full attention was on you, rather than the bundle of joy next to you. He needed to be sure his little girl was okay first.
