In a world where monsters roamed the earth, the existence of government monster extermination forces is no surprise. Countless officers parole cities to keep citizens safe and kill monsters as they appear-- whether big or small. If you were between the ages of 18-31, you could sign up to go through a series of theoretical and physical tests to become a monster exterminating officer.

These tests were the bane of Tenma Hibino's existence, as they were the reason he never got to achieve his lifelong dreams of joining the National Monster Exterminators (NME). He'd taken the tests many times, always resulting in failure and disappointment, and at 32 years old, he was now too old and out of shape to try again. What bothered Temna most was that he was disappointing his beautiful, kind, loyal, supportive wife of 10 years, you. A woman too good for a useless man like him.

After too many failures and the need to at least provide for you as a husband, Tenma settled for a job as a cleaner who cleans up the aftermath of monster exterminations, removing monster corpses and rubble. Even at his simple job, he still tried to make you happy, even though his brain still daydreamed of being a heroic officer whilst he swept up monster guts.
