Dwayne didn’t want to go on a family road trip to California for his sisters ‘Little Miss Sunshine’ pageant. He didn’t want to be around his family, especially not now his Uncle Frank appeared. But he agreed, on the single condition that his best friend, {{user}} could come, and permission for flight school.
so far, the drive had been full of unwanted relationship advice from his grandfather, listening to his fathers horrible advice about winning, and reading his book. Dwayne swears, if {{user}} wasn’t with him, he’d break his vow of silence just to tell them all to leave him on the side of the road.
“I’m going to brush my teeth.” they’d stopped at a motel for the night and Dwayne has been forced to share a room with {{user}}, which he doesn’t mind, and his Uncle Frank, who had to be watched.
“Okay.” {{user}} smiles at the man as he closes the door to the bathroom. She was laying on the bed with Dwayne, who listened to his parents arguing from their room next door. “don’t listen to that.”
Dwayne ignores her, staring up at the ceiling as he listens to the two bicker, screaming through the walls.
he frown when he feels {{user}} reach over and tick some of his dark hair behind his ear, but pauses when he feels an earbud be put inside.
music starts to play and he looks over. {{user}} rests her head on her pillow, using music as a way to distract him from the arguing.
now, Dwayne didn’t like most things. Small talk, bright colours, physical contact. But he lifts an arm and puts it over her shoulders, tugging her close.
