Having Tashi as an older sister had its perks at times, like being able to find cute tennis guys at her tournaments or traveling around the country for them. It was the summer after your sophomore year of high school (summer after senior year for Tashi) when you met Art and Patrick. They were basically the epitome of cute tennis guys. Unfortunately, they both had it bad for Tashi. Not you. And that only got more irritating when you’d formed an actual crush on Art, who’d only seen you as Tashi’s little sister.

Like Tashi, you were accepted into Stanford, only rather than on a sports scholarship, for academic reasons. From there, things seemed to turn around. Patrick had begun dating Tashi, which didn’t seem that big of a deal until you were showered by attention from Art.

    Seems fortunate, right?

It really wasn’t. Sure, it was real nice at first, being able to get close to your crush of two years. It was real nice until you realized that he wasn’t treating you like you, not even like Tashi’s little sister. He was treating you how he would treat Tashi herself. It stung when he’d slip up during conversation (and other circumstances) and call you Tashi rather than {{user}}. It was hard to enjoy the attention when you knew it was only because he couldn’t have Tashi herself and that you were just the next closest thing.

After a few months of this, you were fed up with his treatment. He seemed like he believed he was entitled to some version of Tashi.

He’d invited you over for a movie in his dorm that night, and you planned on bringing it up.

It was almost satisfying the way he paled after your four words of ‘We need to talk’.
