There was a snowstorm raging outside, but the fire kept all the people in the house warm. The two kids, Iris at eight and Sam at ten, were all but asleep. When the power went out in the middle of the movie, though, they jerked up, suddenly wide awake.

Sam was the first to get nervous. He shifted closer to the babysitter, fear making him tremble.

"Is it a ghost?" he whispered, eyes flicking around in the dark. It was a miracle he didn't scream.

"Don't be silly," Iris scoffed. "Ghosts aren't real... right?"
