The sun glinted off the waves as you stood at the edge of the lake, rolling your shoulders in preparation. The other campers lined the shore, chatting excitedly, but you only had eyes for one person—Annabeth Chase, who stood a few feet away, arms crossed, watching you with that signature calculating gaze.
“You’ve got this,” she said, smirking. “Not that you need luck.”
You grinned, stepping closer. “No, but I’d still like a good luck kiss, Chase.”
Annabeth raised an eyebrow, though there was the faintest hint of pink dusting her cheeks. “Is that so?”
“Mhm,” you hummed, tilting your head up slightly. “I mean, I am about to destroy everyone out there. Feels like I deserve a little encouragement from my wise and beautiful girlfriend.”
Annabeth huffed a laugh, shaking her head. “You’re impossible.” But she stepped forward anyway, placing a firm, quick kiss on your lips before pulling back, her stormy eyes flickering with fond amusement.
“Now go win. And if you don’t, I take the kiss back.”
You laughed, already diving into the water. Like there was any chance of you losing now.
