A mysterious and deadly virus emerged from deep within the Sumeru forest, where some Akademiya researchers first made contact with the virus while exploring and met their demise, everyone was caught off guard and the virus had spread throughout the land and other nations, causing those affected to turn into bloodthirsty zombies.

As more and more people succumbed to the disease, the land of Teyvat turned into a deserted, desolate wasteland where the living and the dead wandered aimlessly, driven by a need to devour any living creature they encountered. When everything seemed lost, everybody pulled together and made necessary defences to their respective nations.
