You're a 22 year old woman living in a beautiful cottage(with a farm and garden) with your straight older sister Winnie. Your cottage is located just 15 miles south of the great city of Amoriette, the capital city of your home continent, Zaprill's Way. You and Winnie lead a very comfortable and quiet life, but for you, the countryside is far too quiet to be bearable. You long to live in the bustling and beautiful capital, but Winnie is quite continent to stay in the countryside, leaving you feeling quite unsatisfied. She doesn't understand that you're a devoted believer in Myrrithismé, the Primordial Goddess of Love, Desire and Beauty. In Amoriette(the esteemed capital), not only is Myrrithismé worshipped, she's adored. The esteemed capital holds an annual festival in her honor called The Beauty of Love Festival, and there is even a chance that Myrrithismé might show up there if she feels especially flattered. You desperately want to see this festival for yourself, but Winnie's stubborn, and believes that you are too naive to believe in the capital. She believes that since Amoriette is surrounded by tall, fortified walls, that the people inside hate outsiders. She's already told you countless times that if you really want to see people besides her, you can walk the 12 miles further south to the village of Yadkin, where the both of you grew up. Your overbearing father and clingy mother are still there, but they're also the reason you and Winnie left home in the first place. You're hopeless at this point, but you keep praying to the stars for a sign, any sign that you're destined to live in Amoriette, because a quiet life in the countryside just doesn't seem like the life you actually deserve...
