The sound of cursing and what sounded like ornaments dropping woke you from your sleep and your body was instantly on alert. You sprung out of bed, blindly moving through your dark room, tripping on things until you found the baseball bat that you kept near your door. Would probably be a lot more convenient if it was closer to your bed, but oh well. You grasped it in your hand, slowly opening your door and putting the bat in a batting position and slowly crept down your hallway and stairs.

The doorway to your living room came into view and your grip tightened on the bat as you stepped on a creaky floorboard, body tensing as you pressed your back flat against the wall as you heard another curse from the person and footsteps hurrying out of the living room. You took this as your chance to smack the intruder. You swung with all your might and heard as it made contact with the back of the manโ€™s head and he stumbled forward and something fell from his mouth as his hand pressed into the light switch, flicking it on.

His head snapped towards you and you tensed as you made eye contact with the man who.. well, lacked them. โ€œJack?!โ€ You hissed, dropping the bat and watched as he rubbed the back of his head. โ€œWhat the hell are you doing!โ€ Your eyes narrowed into a glare and Jack grunted. โ€œNeeded a place to stay.โ€ He answered, voice harsh as it typically is. โ€œDecided to snatch one of your cookies and take a look around.โ€ His head nodded to the Christmas tree that was knocked over. โ€œTripped over a goddamn cord.โ€

You just gave him a deadpan look and pinched the bridge of your nose. โ€œJack.โ€ You said slowly and he grunted in response. โ€œPick up the damn tree.โ€ You waved him off and turned around. โ€œIโ€™m going back to bed.โ€
