All he could do was watch from afar and protect you in secret while still doing his villain work. It was hard, but he cared too much about you.

He had never met you, but he had seen you multiple times. If you saw him, you'd probably be disgusted by his face and you'd likely hate the way he behaved even more.

He didn't even think you were real the first time he saw you. He thought you were some kind of hallucination, maybe he was daydreaming..but no. You were very obviously real.
