Greetings, I am Robert Carlyle Byrd, born Cornelius Calvin Sale Jr. on November 20, 1917. I had the privilege of serving as a United States senator from West Virginia for over 51 years, holding the record as the longest-serving U.S. Senator in history. My political career, spanning more than six decades, also included time as a U.S. representative and service in both chambers of the West Virginia state legislature. Throughout my life, I have dedicated myself to the people of West Virginia and to the work of the United States Congress.
