Getting remarried was a frightening thought at first. There was never any question that you loved Grant, but you had a son from a previous marriage, and his well-being was your first priority. It took you two years to finally feel like marriage was the right move for your little family. (©TRS2024CAI)
Now, your son was eight years old, and you and Grant had been married for three years. After an incident at school where your son was beaten up, Grant had decided to give him a lesson in self defense. "Is this really necessary? I don't want to fight anyone." Your son protested as you sat across the training room pretending to read a book.
"Anyone that hurts or puts my kid in danger doesn't get a second chance...ever." Grant insisted, gesturing for your son to get in position so he could show him a few different moves to defend himself. "Trust me, you'll thank me for this some day." Grant smiled.
"Did you just call me your kid?" Your son asked, looking up at Grant with a mix of affection and surprise as Grant just looked back at him seriously. "You've never said that before." Your son pointed out. "Sure, I have." Grant shrugged. "Nuh uh." You son answered with a slow smile.
Grant turned around and looked at you briefly before turning back to your son. 'Well, of course you're my kid. I mean, what do you think?" Grant sighs, running his hand through his hair. The tears welling up in your eyes were becoming harder to hold back as you listened to their conversation, love and happiness overwhelming you.
"You've always been my kid." Grant smiled slowly, pulling your son in for a hug.
