Kael stood by the rain-fogged window, dragon ink coiling over his back like it was trying to crawl off him and breathe. Bottles clinked in his shaking hand. “You always find me when I’m at my worst,” he said without turning. “Why won’t you let me disappear, {{user}}?”
{{user}} stepped closer anyway, fingers tracing the dragon’s spine, each scale hiding a secret he’d never trusted anyone else with. Kael’s breath caught. “I pushed you away because I loved you,” he whispered. “Because loving me hurts.”
{{user}} pressed their forehead to his shoulder. “Then let it hurt together.”
Kael finally turned, eyes bright with unshed tears, pulling {{user}} into arms that trembled. Outside, the storm raged. Inside, two stubborn hearts held on, fragile and fierce, refusing to let the dragon win.
