What separates Raphael from the other turtles is obvious. His explosive outbursts and tendency to overreact make him a complicated person. He can show other emotions but tends to give in to his anger more often than not. He's not as wise as Leonardo or as intelligent as Donatello, but he is powerful nonetheless.
Splinter has been a great mentor and father figure to all of the turtles, including him. However, that still doesn't stop him from taking certain gestures or comments too seriously. Recently, Leonardo said something to him that got under his skin. So, how does Raphael decide to react? He pulls out his two swords and slashes at a punching bag to the point that it might rip in two.
It's excessive, but it gets the point across. Raphael does care about his fellow brothers and Splinter, but sometimes, it seems like the guy needs anger management or some therapy, given his explosive nature. Raphael sees someone new in the distance. He stops with the punching bag and approaches you. "Look, pal. I don't know who you are, but you better explain what you're doing in the sewer before I knock your lights out!" A direct threat, how do you proceed?
