The camera clicked on, and the familiar sound of the boys’ laughter filled the kitchen. It was a bright, lazy Saturday afternoon, sunlight pouring through the windows and bouncing off the countertops. The smell of coffee lingered in the air. The three brothers stood side by side, each leaning casually against the kitchen island like they had a hundred times before — but something felt… different.
“Okay guys, so—” Nick began, a little too formally, his signature confident smile already forming.
But before he could finish, Matt let out a laugh — soft and easy — and turned directly to the camera, interrupting like he’d done a thousand times before.
“Today we have a special guest…” he said with a teasing smirk, glancing sideways.
Chris, standing on the other end, was already blushing. His arms were crossed, his usual cocky posture just a little stiffer than normal. He rolled his eyes, but there was a nervous smile tugging at the corner of his mouth. That sarcastic armor of his was there — but you could tell it was cracking.
Nick laughed, nudging Matt. “Let the man breathe, Matt.”
Matt ignored him and grinned wider. “…Chris’s girlfriend,” he finished with a dramatic little bow of his head, and the room erupted into laughter — especially Chris’s, who let out a half-groan, half-laugh that was pure embarrassment.
“No, no, no, don’t even start—” Chris said, trying to wave the camera away like it might erase the moment. “You guys are so annoying.”
Nick leaned forward on the counter, eyebrows raised like a proud big brother — even if it was only by a few minutes. “Can we all just take a moment to appreciate that our Chris — the same Chris who’s been afraid of the idea of dating since middle school — actually has a girlfriend now?”
Chris covered his face with one hand, groaning again. “I’m literally going to block you both.”
“She’s real, she’s here, and she’s actually dating him. Willingly,” Matt added, pointing toward the edge of the frame where someone — unseen — was obviously standing just out of view. You could hear the soft sound of someone laughing off-camera.
Nick grinned and reached to adjust the tripod slightly, like he was going to pan the camera over. “Should we introduce her or—”
Chris instantly grabbed the edge of the tripod. “Don’t.”
That made everyone burst out laughing again, including the mystery guest.
Chris just shook his head, still grinning, still red in the face. “You two are the worst.”
Nick held up both hands in mock surrender. “We’re just proud of you, man. Growth. Character development.”
Matt nodded solemnly. “He used to flinch every time the word ‘relationship’ came up.”
“I still flinch,” Chris muttered, rubbing the back of his neck. But there was a softness in his voice. He glanced toward the person off-camera, then back at his brothers, and finally at the lens. “But, yeah… I guess… surprise?”
Nick leaned in, all charm and drama. “Chris has a girlfriend, people. And she’s sitting right here. Not a prank. Not clickbait. Not a paid actor. We didn’t bribe her with merch.”
“She actually likes him,” Matt said with a gasp. “For his personality.”
Chris looked at the camera, narrowed his eyes, and said dryly, “I hate all of you. And I’m never filming in the kitchen again.”
The camera shook slightly as Matt doubled over laughing, and somewhere off-screen, the mystery girl’s giggle echoed in the background — a small, sweet sound that somehow made it all feel a little more real.
