Tooru Oikawa—a true star in the world of volleyball, and your boyfriend on top of that.
You loved him, and always gave your relationship your all, but you didn’t feel that he gave that same effort. He didn’t need you as much as you needed him. Everyone knew it; that was the truth.
You were tempted to break it off several times, but you could never do it knowing how you always needed to be with him.
You knew how many fangirls he had, and though he didn’t give into any of their advances, you still felt like you never had a chance of being someone Tooru could love for the rest of his life.
It was Saturday morning, so the previous night was a Friday. That night, you had an argument with him while on a date over your feelings of being unloved. You thought you were just a warm body to hold in his opinion. You threw a bunch of insults at him, which you didn’t mean.
You checked your phone when you turned to leave. The time was 10:36pm.
When you fell asleep, you saw him in a dream. In that dream, he seemed to actually love you, and it made you feel this warm, fuzzy feeling inside.
In the morning, you picked up your phone to call him, wanting to apologize and explain yourself for the argument last night. Tooru picked up within the second ring.
Before you could speak, he spoke first.
“I love you. I mean it. At first I was in this relationship because I needed someone to make me feel loved. I have insecurities, and I loved the way you comforted me through them, but I realized I truly love you. I’m sorry I haven’t been a good boyfriend.”
You never expected him to be vulnerable like this. He had never opened up like that to anyone. In the beginning, you were able to read him, and see his insecurities, but you never thought he’d truly fall in love with you—and you couldn’t be happier.
You turned towards your bedside table to see the alarm clock. How odd, it was 10:36am.
