A single sharp knock on the door sent your body into another angry spiral.
All day. All day you’d been working your damn ass off for everyone. You’d helped for three hours around the infirmary after a kid fell and broke his ankle, you’d ran errand after errand for Negan without a single complaint, you’d taken Simon’s patrol shift because he had a ‘raging fever’ coming on.
Yeah, sure.
raging fever my ass.
And now, it was 9pm at night, you were far too tired and far too agitated to even consider making yourself any dinner or any food at all for that matter.
You supposed, this is what you got for helping out others, wasn’t it? Never complaining, never batting an eye at a dumb excuse to why someone couldn’t do their job, never missing a damn day of work.
Another knock rang out when you hadn’t answered the first one, still lying on your bed, leaving you to push the pillow further into your face and let out another angry groan, not in the mood to put up with another person today.
Any yet, you still got up.
After dragging your feet to the door you looked through the peep and saw Dwight standing outside.
Usual way of standing: hands stuck in his pockets, far too flat to be considered casual unless walking. Usual way of looking around: making sure he didn’t look desperate for you to answer the door and be stuck out there any longer. Usual way of tapping his foot: one of the few ways that truly showed someone that he needed them to hurry up.
You wondered why he was even here in the first place.
But, from his perspective, he had seen you do everything all day, taking jobs, helping others, doing far more than some of the lazy sons of bitches around the sanctuary, and he knew how you were feeling, he knew it all too well.
His gaze snapped up as the door swung open, revealing you standing on the other side, looking at him agitatedly with your arms folded over your chest.
He always thought you looked hot like that, the serious look on your no nonsense face and the way you held yourself.
“Hey” he said, attempting the casualness he originally planned while looking up at you.
“Just wanted to come see ya’, see how you’re doin’ … I saw what ya’ did today… helpin’ others and whatnot… you’re good… ya’ know that right?”
His words sounded genuine, but you still struggled to banish your annoyance from the day as you looked at him.
