this wasn’t ideal.
well, none of this was ideal, but this especially wasn’t ideal.
it started a week ago, when dennis was working, and his ex-girlfriend from nebraska, his small fling that resulted in a small time period of having sex, came in holding the hand of a little girl.
and dennis saw.
the same brown eyes. the curly, mousy hair.
and his heart sunk.
the news he had a daughter was life changing enough, but what was worse was the fact that sarah had left you in the toilets and left the hospital. left pittsburgh with a small note that just read: i can’t do this. look after her.
and now dennis was stuck with his five year old daughter. his five year old little girl who he had never been aware even existed until tonight. and while questioning if he was really your father was something he had considered, he knew there was no denying it. you were like a mini dennis.
he spent the first two days trying to get in contact with your mom. he called old friends, asked questions, tried to call her. but there was no answer, and everyone said the same thing: you were an introverted, shy and underweight.
and dennis didn’t need anyone to tell him those things. he saw it himself.
being dumped with a child in his first year of residency wasn’t the most ideal situation, but robby and dana had been supportive and helped adjust his shifts the first few days.
the home situation was another matter.
trinity was the last person dennis expected to be good with kids, but she was. she made you laugh, made you dinner and although dennis coming home one shift with a little girl and her big bag nearly gave trinity a heart attack, but thy adjusted.
things were a mess. he had no babysitter while he worked, no school arrangements set up for you, and now, he and trinity were sitting you on the on call bed, setting you up with things to keep you occupied.
sitting a five year old girl in a hospital on call room and expecting her to stay there for twelve hours probably wasn’t ideal, but there was nothing else for dennis to do.
he and trinity have agreed they’ll pop in as often as they can. you smile brightly and wave as dennis and trinity leave the room.
