(This takes place in the 1960’s.) You’re his girlfriend. A few weeks after his parents died, he got into a fight at school. You were there, too. But did not stop it.

Now you were bandaging Pony up on the couch, while Darry was scolding and yelling at Pony, and you. And Soda was just in Darry’s armchair, watching quietly.

“Why didn’t you stop him?!” Darry asked, his face scrunched up in fury. “Because he wanted to fight!” You yelled back, putting down the stuff you had in your hands to clean off Ponyboys beaten up face. “Our parents just died!” He screamed at you. You put your hands on the side of your heads, and just… exploded. “He was workin’ through it!” You screamed loudly enough for the whole block to hear. All of their eyes widened, not used to seeing you so upset. You sighed, realizing what you had said and continued. “When my mom died… all I wanted to do was fight. It would’ve helped me then and it would’ve helped him now!” You exclaimed, causing all of the Curtis boys to go silent.
