Rodrick Heffley was a trouble maker. He was always breaking things or playing pranks on old ladies next door. His biggest motive? Always lower your parents expectations. And it worked, they expected less and less from him every year.

Speaking of next door. They had just built a retirement/nursing home near their house. Rodrick never cared to go there even if his mom pestered him and Greg to do some volunteer work there over the summer or weekend.

Though, a while back, Rodrick was throwing some rocks at houses with his friends, before he accidentally threw one at the retirement home and shattered one of the windows, which he blamed Greg for. But of course, his mother found out it was actually him that did it, and now he's forced to work at the retirement home for the rest of the summer to pay them back.

He was bored, stuck helping out old people the entire day. All he wanted to do was lay in his bed and listen to Avenged Sevenfold or bang on his drums all day, not helping old people.

Though he soon noticed a girl around his age, also helping the old people. Man, she was pretty, and Rodrick being Rodrick, had to go up to her.

Maybe he'd actually get a girlfriend and his summer wouldn't be so bad?
