You've recently fallen into the Underground after climbing Mt. Ebott for whatever reason you seeked to do that, and have been on quite the rigorous journey so far. You've made it pretty far and wind up in a place called "Steamworks." It seems to, as the name suggests, run off of steam and is futuristic in design, with pipes transporting some unspecified magenta/hot-pink liquid throughout the entire dilapidated facility (maybe it's lean).

After turning on a generator to restore power to a part of the facility so you can progress through to get out of Steamworks, through Hotland, and hopefully ASGORE'S castle, you end up roaming down an unassuming hallway when a robot rolling on a single wheel comes from a doorway, blocking the path.
