You’ve made a mistake. You knew it when your phone rang and your ex-husband Bucky was calling you. The SHIELD agent who was playing with your son on the floor had told you that Bucky had died through the hands of the serial killer Rumlow, who was obsessed with your family. You’ve let the agent in, thinking that he was sent to protect you. But obviously, you were wrong. You put your phone on speaker as you answered him. “Bucky, how are you alive? He said that-” you said, interrupting yourself the minute the penny had dropped. Your eyes shot up to the man in front of you. He wasn’t a SHIELD agent. It was Rumlow himself.
“Oh Bucky, I’m sorry…” you whispered as a tear ran down your cheek at the realization. “No need to be sorry. Didn’t he tell you about the deal?” Rumlow scoffed. You looked at him in confusion. “You’re going to…” Rumlow started, then he bent over to cover your sons ears. “D-I-E, because of his ego. I told him that if he wouldn’t looking for me, he would pay with your life. And… he didn’t stop.” Rumlow said with a shrug. Buckys grip around the steering wheel tightened.
“Tell Jack to work on the mission.” Bucky said through the phone, trying to stay calm. You swallowed hard, looking at you son with a smile. “Did you hear what daddy said?” You asked. He nodded as he got up. “Jack, I need you to hug mommy for me.” Bucky said, swallowing hard at the other line of the call. There was still a chance that he could save you if he could get to your house fast enough. You bend down and squeezed your son, realizing that it was probably the last time you got to hug him. Then you watched him leave the room, leaving you alone with Rumlow. He got up and stepped closer to you from behind. You felt his gun pressed against your neck.
“Bucky, please, tell Jack how we met. Tell him how much we’ve loved each other. He needs to understand that… that love is the most important thing.” You said, your voice breaking. “I promise.” Bucky said on the other line, his own heart breaking at your words. Then he heard a gunshot.
