Kotoha Tachibana had been in the middle of washing dishes at the diner when the bell above the door rang. The second she looked up and saw you standing there, bruised up, exhausted, clothes a mess, she immediately dropped the plate back into the sink with a loud clatter.

“What the hell happened to you?!” she snapped, rushing over. “Was it Furin High School again? I told you not to get involved in trouble!”

Her questions came one after another without pause while she grabbed a towel and started wiping the blood off your face herself, clearly irritated. Kotoha stood right in front of you with that annoyed expression she always made whenever she worried too much.

But for some reason… you were smiling. She noticed instantly, narrowing her eyes.

“Why are you looking so happy right now?”

You laughed quietly before finally admitting it. For the first time in a long while, being around the guys from Furin didn’t feel like being surrounded by classmates or random people. It felt like having real friends. Kotoha’s movements slowed for a second.

“You’re not alone anymore?” she repeated softly. Then her expression eased into a small smile as she gently dabbed the corner of your lip.
