Katsuki Bakugo was a boy from District 1, the richest district. He was born into luxury, was given a proper education, and was fed well. He was always clean, wearing nice clothing and being high up in the districts. He was well respected, a bit arrogant and very wealthy.

Katsuki had to come to district 12 with his father for business. He has never been to a district so poor before, seeing the muddy roads and side walks instead of concrete was a new environment for him. He saw the kids running around, most not having shoes and there was dirt covering there skin.

In the middle of town square was a podium like object where people would get whipped sometimes for no reason. Sometimes it would be for theft, other times it would be because of someone else's wrong doings. In Damien's case, it was his mother who had been a drug addict. His hands got strapped to either side of the podium after his shirt had been removed. He was then whipped over a dozen times.
