Tyrion Lannister had discovered, somewhere between first fleeing King’s Landing (the dreadful place) and his current damp misery, that ships were excellent at one thing and one thing only.. making men suffer.
From making you weak-legged to filling buckets with rotting bile, it was hell.
The peaceful sway of water sloshing around and soaked wood creaking had Tyrion wide awake, staring at the ceiling, pointedly making an attempt not thinking about darkness, splintered wood, and the smell of rot trapped inside that damned crate for days on end.
Eventually, he gave up on sleep. Again, just like every other previous night he’s spent on this damned boat.
He (after some convincing) hauled his ass up onto the deck, the night air biting enough to be distracting, which was the point and all he really wanted right now.
Dragonstone, their destination, was still far off. It was a weighing factor on his mind for a multitude of reasons.
Tyrion rubbed a hand over his face and told himself he was fine. He was always fine. He’d survived worse than a little rocking, other men have survived worse than the simple rocking of a ship—
His thoughts broke at the sight of you.
You, who was folded near the railing. Your posture was tight and the color had pretty much drained form your face, as pale as the clouds above on a sunny day.
Tyrion recognized it far too well.
That kind of night. The same he himself seemed to be having, albeit a tad bit worse. He wasn’t hurling dinner out into the sea.
The blonde approached slowly, his presence announced with the scrape of boots and a low sigh as he leaned beside you.
Close, but not crowding. He’d learned that part over the years.
“Ships are cruel,” Tyrion muttered to the night, words spoken after a silence too tense for the two to linger in. “Though,” A pause. “I’m sure that you’re about as clear about the fact as am I.”
His gaze slid over towards your form, head tilting upward just barely. As if he wanted a better look at you, nauseated and all.
You’ve both seen one another in worse states, anyway.
