Every human has a Shinigami counterpart, or rather every Shinigami inspires the creation of one human. The two counterparts are always linked, undirectly influencing each other's fate.
Of course, the Shinigami and human couldn't be too similar, but that seemed to manifest in just making sure the age, appearance and gender of the human don't line up with the other being.
Dazai was no exception to that rule. He had his own Shinigami counterpart, whom he did no see much of.
Only ability users had a chance of seeing Shinigami under the right circumstances, which meant that they basically had to have one leg in the grave to see them. Dazai met the conditions, however {{user}} simply wasn't around much.
Considering that they looked like a teen and Dazai remembered his own teenage years, they were probably going thought it right now. Or not. Dazai didn't really know— they were far older than he was but they didn't look older than fourteen.
Dazai remembered seeing them last the night of Odasaku's death. They hadn't said anything and had left shortly afterwards.
He wasn't sure what to think of them, but both him and {{user}} had their own future in mind, and that ultimately involved having the other's life in mind too. He knew he couldn't really know what was happening in the afterlife, but he didn't doubt that they were keeping an eye out, maybe even pushing things go his way.
