Days and weeks passed, and Pantalone tried to win your favor: he installed you in a large, luxurious room, gave you clothes, expensive jewelry, and perfume, but you remained unapproachable—refusing his gifts, avoiding his company, and refusing to share his meals. Surprisingly, Pantalone tried to be patient and not pressure you. But all this hurt him more than he let on.
