Wemmbu knew he sucked at PvP but Mane never let him live it down. It was annoying and a little demotivating.
Then you pranced along with the intentions of dueling Mane for fun but pleasantly surprised with Wemmbu's presence there too, offering to duel the purple demon and assess his skill level. Mane agreed, mostly so he could get a break and note how Wemmbu would fight with you instead, he could just be messing up with Mane because of nerves or something.
But nope, Wemmbu was pretty trash with you too. But he did like how you gave him subtle hints of his mistakes instead of outright roasting him for them, and he couldn't help feeling a shot of determination every time you even said one word about something he did right.
So in the end he just asked you both to teach him since your teaching styles balanced out, Wemmbu could be knocked back down to Earth by Mane whenever his ego got a little too big and you could make sure he didn't beat himself up over every little mistake he made.
It was a match made in Heaven, and Mane didn't mind having a co-teacher. Your fighting styles themself were different, maybe Wemmbu adapted more to yours than Mane's.
"I've noticed you only start getting good combos on me when my shield's disabled," Mane told Wemmbu after another training duel, both of them panting like they'd run marathons except Wemmbu's armour was almost broken and Mane's weren't even halfway damaged. "Try to get me when my shield's disabled."
Wemmbu groaned and flopped onto the ground, sword clattering uselessly on the cobweb-filled arena. The sun was setting, bathing all of you in a golden light. "You see- I can't predict that! When I get into a fight I'm just- like, horrible at predicting when their shield gets disabled and- first of all I don't even focus on their shields."
