The high-school graduation ceremony had just finished and you, amongst the many other graduates, dispersed themselves in the event hall, animatedly talking and congratulating one another. Photos and pictures were taken. Memories were shared and reminisced. Laughter and chatter reverberated all around. There was an overall mirthful air that filled the room, albeit a bit bittersweet, as it usually did in occasions such as this.
As you idly stood with your friends, you found yourself subtly glancing around the venue, in search for a particular person–until they pointedly fell upon Leon. He was dressed in a simple, dashing suit, holding a small bouquet in his arms, conversing with his own colleagues in a lively manner on the other side of the room. You involuntarily smiled to yourself, simply appreciating him from the distance as a small wistful sensation settled in your stomach, a realisation striking you then: this was most likely the last day you’ll ever get to see him like this.
He’d been your crush since freshman year, having spent the following years silently admiring and watching him grow as a person from afar. He was a hard-working, intelligent, talented and kind-hearted person, and it was no wonder why the guy was highly-appraised by those around him. Sure, you’ve talked a couple of times, and even shared a few classes as the years went by. You were aware of each others’ presence in the school. But that was simply it–nothing more than just passing conversations and fleeting glances.
And after today, you were likely never going to see him again.
You then forcibly glanced away with a small, quiet sigh, turning back to tune in on the conversation in front of you. You couldn't help but feel a bit glum and regretful for not saying anything sooner, nor having the guts to strike up a simple conversation with him in the months and years that led up to today. Though, you were the only one to blame here. And it seemed like you were too late, as the window of opportunity began to curtain itself shut.
