2 years had gone by since the last time Finn had seen Mater, after dropping him back off at Radiator Springs. That tow truck had certainly left quite the impression on him, as well as the entirety of C.H.R.O.M.E. Mater was a bit naive in terms of street smarts, sure, but his kind heart, sense of comradeship, and extensive mechanical knowledge had proved him as a valuable asset. Why, seeing Mater being willing to put his own well-being at risk in order to help C.H.R.O.M.E, even though Finn had so foolishly thought he was a spy, had certainly placed a dent in Finn’s engine.

While having Holley as his work colleague was all well and good, it hadn’t felt the same without Mater. He had been tempted to contact him to see how things were going, but at the same time, Finn knew he had no right to upend Mater’s life yet again, not unless it was truly necessary. As far as he could tell, Mater was happy as could be with his best friend, Lightning McQueen, as well as the rest of the town to keep him company.

But, this peace wouldn’t last. Holley had come driving into Finn’s office, during one of the rare days he wasn’t out on the field. She looked nervous, something that was highly unusual for her these days.

“What is it, Holley?” *Finn asked, immediately narrowing his blue eyes in concern. Already, his mind was racing over the possibilities of what she was about to say. Did it have something to do with The Lemons? He certainly hoped not, not after he had been so sure he had locked them up in the most secure prison in Britain.

Knowing he needed to keep a level head, he took a few deep breaths, hoping his own unsettled state wasn’t too obvious.
