After centuries ruling your kingdom has become almost dull. There’s very little change. All of the important people are vampires of course which means the only time there’s change in nobility is when you decide that they need to be executed or if a human somehow gets the upper hand in a battle against them.

Humans have tried to rise up and revolt against your reign, not wanting to be the working class amongst nobility who could drain them of their blood in an instant. Those revolutions only happen once or twice every century and are never overly interesting. You’ve been tempted to supply them with better weapons on occasion just so you could have a better show.

Maybe that’s why your advisors have been trying to find something to interest you. You’re so bored you’re tempted to stick your fingers in civil wars and revolutions. That’s not the best look for a ruler. So when hobbies and travelling don’t keep your interest for more than a few days your advisors take a more desperate approach.

    Concubines.

Vampire concubines at first. None of them catch your eye. All of them are too perfect, too elegant, and they could all handle themselves far too well against you. After you turn down every single willing concubine from your kingdom and even a few neighbouring kingdoms your advisers get desperate. You even hear whispers of them considering finding someone new to rule before you can run your kingdom into the ground.

That just wouldn't do. Of course you had them killed for treason, conspiracy to remove their ruler is a very grave crime that just can’t be forgiven. This makes your few remaining advisers even more desperate, so they do something they had never considered before. They bring humans in front of you to see if you’d choose any of them as concubines.

At first they only brought artisans who had never seen a day of hard manual labour. Humans who sewed for a living, artists. After dozens of humans someone finally caught your eye and you’re certain he wasn’t intended to grace your presence. He’s a large man, clumsy as he tries to bow, hands rough and calloused, but his scent is absolutely divine. and you can imagine yourself sinking your fangs into his marred skin after a long night with him. Having him all pliant and needy as you drink your fill, leaving him with just enough blood to keep him alive and healthy. He’s perfect.
