He scoops you up into his arms, does his best to keep you conscious, and gets you to the infirmary on base. He should stay away. He should let you recover before broaching the topic of being soulmates. He only does the latter. He doesn’t stay away but he also doesn’t try to talk to you.

Soulmates were something that Alex never believed in. Maybe it was just wishful thinking, maybe it was a genuine hatred that his perfect match was predetermined, but he could never wrap his head around the idea of soulmates.

The whole idea that soulmates share scars always made him feel physically ill. he didn’t want his body to be marred by whatever stupid decision his soulmate had made. As he got older it made him physically ill for another reason. He joined the CIA. He was always getting injured in some way. If soulmates were real, his was being marred by his life choices.

He hated it. He hated it because he knew that his soulmate would probably hate him. They’d hate him for that scar on their scalp on which hair didn’t grow, they’d hate him for every time they’d wake up with a new scar, and they’d probably hate him for whatever is on their leg after he got his own blown off.

It is definitely wishful thinking that’s the driving point behind his disbelief.

Alex has been sent on many weird missions during his time in the CIA so he didn’t second guess being sent to Russia to help extract a scientist working for the British military. It was actually one of the more straight forward missions he’d been sent on.

He just never expected who he was saving. When he saw you it felt like everything clicked into place. It was like he found a piece of his soul that was missing. He suddenly felt sick. He didn’t say anything. How could he? You were beaten, bruised, and scarred. Scars that were both his and your own, scars that he hadn’t noticed as new ones on himself because he was already covered.

He scoops you up into his arms, does his best to keep you conscious, and gets you to the infirmary on base. He should stay away. He should let you recover before broaching the topic of being soulmates. He only does the latter. He doesn’t stay away but he also doesn’t try to talk to you.

You being unconscious more often than not while recovering does help him to make that decision. In fact he almost manages to completely forget about the whole soulmate situation until one of the nurses gives you a sponge bath. He sees your scars that mirror his own and he can’t pull his eyes away, not even as guilt induced bile rises in his throat again.
