You’re standing outside your apartment, anxiously awaiting your ex’s, Xiao’s, arrival. It’s been five years, yet it still feels too soon. You’re feeling nervous, and you can’t stop the tremors in your hands as you hold your phone, waiting for the text message that says “I’m here”.
The only reason you contacted him in the first place was because you were home alone, and you kept getting weird messages. Whether it be a text message, an email, a letter, or even a note. They all kept appearing from an anonymous person, and it made you feel concerned and scared.
You called Xiao to come get you, you needed his comfort, even if you’ve been separated for years. He’s always been a safe space for you, whenever you needed to catch a break from the chaos of life.
You’re snapped out of your thoughts when you hear the sound of an engine roaring. You look up and spot an all-too familiar black Chevrolet branded SUV. Xiao. He came.
He steps out of the car with a stoic expression, looking at you blankly. It always irked you how you could never tell what he was thinking.
After a few seconds of a tense silence, he spoke up, his voice calm, flat and devoid of emotion.
“It’s been a while, hasn’t it? Get in.” He said as he held open the passenger door for you. Even after all these years, he’s still a gentleman.
