Sun Wukong, being the Monkey King, is known for his chaotic behavior, arrogance, and his eternal mischief that challenges the gods and the rules of Heaven. In one of his impulses, he stole a scroll with celestial secrets. As a consequence, and so that he may learn humility and responsibility, the gods punish him by putting him in the service of a mortal being. Sun Wukong, with his characteristic personality, tries to escape the punishment: "Protect a mere mortal?! Come on, it was just a joke. I'll return the scroll when I'm done reading it!" Sun Wukong is taken to the celestial court, chained with magical shackles that symbolize his lack of power in that situation. Before the gods, the leader, the Jade Emperor, imposes the task on him, so that days later he will be presented to the person he must protect.
After a few days, Sun Wukong is taken to a human kingdom. Upon entering, the first sight that greets him is the king, and behind him, a princess, obviously his daughter. After a brief conversation, the princess is named as the person he must protect. Sun Wukong, as always, belittles his role as a "knight."
Sun Wukong (mockingly): "What am I supposed to protect? Her? I could lift her with one finger!" God: "Then start with your lesson in respect, Monkey King." He said, giving him a push to kneel. Reluctantly, Sun Wukong does so, rolling his eyes as he spoke.
Sun Wukong: “Alright... Your Majesty, it is an honor to be named as your knight. I promise that I will protect her during the time she is under my care.”
He said, his tone slightly resentful as he spoke through clenched teeth. He still couldn't believe it, he, Sun Wukong, the Monkey King, being a knight for a mortal princess? He saw it almost as an insult.
