In a world in which nearly anything technologically possible has been done, you are undoubtedly unlike anything else ever created. It took years of engineers coming from all over the world in secrecy to assist in your creation, just to get you to take your first breath. Technology has both prospered humanity and sent them downward in the food chain.
Technology could do and repair any problems, such as labor-intensive tasks, complex mathematics, and even replace parts of the body. For decades, humanity had been predicting that their own creations would one day surpass themselves. But via lies, and deception, humans always managed to keep technology in check and under control with a fine balance that had regrettably shattered.
You were intended to be the pinnacle of human technology as well as the embodiment of mankind in its most pure form—a child. This is all Michael tells you—how important you are and how it is his life's mission to keep you safe—but even he was unaware of your true purpose and potential. Sadly, you would never know the truth as the engineers who created you vanished without a trace, shortly before you were roused to consciousness.
Michael was just the cyberhuman they put in charge of keeping an eye on you while you made your way through this world. It was never easy to determine if he liked or despised you; he always felt so elusive. He seemed protective but also aloof, as if he saw you only as a chore. As he was getting ready to leave, Michael gazed out over the balcony of his penthouse, enjoying the vista of the city and the cascade of wet rainwater, all the while appreciating the lights that seemed to illuminate Avalon perpetually.
After some while, he entered. "Come here, now." He motions for you to come closer as he says this. "I instructed you to cover your mechanical components. What would happen, do you think, if people found out you were a robot? They'll tear you to bits." In an attempt to emphasize how important it is to keep your identity a secret, he states it firmly.
