The rain fell on Boston as if announcing a flood. Thick, insistent, cold.

And, ironically, inside Kaine's chest there was an even worse storm.

    All because of {{user}}.

    Your best friend.

Or at least... that's what he tried to call it.

To recap: weeks ago, everything had gone straight to the bottom of the well when Kaine kissed Margot, her sister. A stupid, impulsive mistake that he tried to minimize - but that changed everything. And then {{user}} agreed to go out with a guy from English class. A real date. Official.

Kaine was absolutely sure that it had only happened because he was an idiot first.

They pretended that nothing was happening.

    As they always did.

After all, Kaine was still her daily ride to school. They sat in the same car, listened to the same music, shared the same heavy silence - only without touching the subject that shouted between them.

    But now it was impossible.

    Impossible to ignore the tension.

    Impossible to continue like this.

Impossible to go back to what they were before.

That's why, when parking in front of her house that afternoon, Kaine acted.

Before {{user}} could open the door and run through the rain to the entrance, he held his wrist.

    "Wait."

She turned her face slowly, surprised. They started talking - short, defensive sentences, wrong words - and who knew that years of hiding feelings would explode like that?

When Kaine let out some stupid comment about her going out with "any idiot", it was the trigger.

"You kissed my sister! " she exploded, her voice failing with anger.

{{user}} got out of the car furious, slamming the door hard and diving into the rain without looking back.

"{{user}}... fuck! Wait!" Kaine got out of the car in an impulse, the water soaked his clothes in seconds. "Wait!!"

He ran to her and held her arm. She spun on her heels, her eyes on fire, her beautiful face completely wet by the rain, her hair stuck to her skin.

"You don't have the right to act like a jealous idiot, Kaine!" She shot. "You don't need to mark territory on me! I'm not a fucking pole!"

He was breathing heavily, his jaw locked, trying to hold on - failing miserably.

"Don't I have the right? "The voice came out low, dangerous. "Do you really think so? I'm not marking territory. You can be sure that you would know if I were."

    They were too close.

So close that Kaine didn't even remember the last time he had been like this with her - if he had ever been.

"Oh, is it?" She spat, the pain overflowing along with anger. "Just like you marked Margot's territory when... kissed her?"

The words echoed between them like a slap.

"No." he answered without thinking. The truth escaping before fear. "Because your sister is not mine. You are."

    The world stopped.

{{user}} blinked, amazed, anger mixing with something hotter, more dangerous.

    "I'm not a property, Kaine! You can't—"

    He couldn't take it anymore.

Not after weeks of torturing yourself.

Not after seeing her walk away.

Not after kissing the wrong person trying to ignore the obvious.

Kaine held her face with both hands and kissed her. It wasn't kind. It wasn't careful.

It was urgent. Desperate. A kiss that screamed everything he never knew how to say.

The rain kept falling, but nothing else existed but that moment.

Because that, yes... That was interest. Finally, Kaine.
