    Red string theory

When he met you, he noticed right away, but you seemed to ignore it. So he stayed quiet. Then you came back into his shop, over and over again. So he started guessing that maybe you haven’t noticed yet or even see the red string binding you to him.

You drink his coffee, you sit at the best table he casually started to reserve for you over time, telling other customers who wanted to sit b window that this seat is already taken without your notice. You always order the same two drinks: either a caramel latte for when you wanted to stay longer and write in your journal, or a mango matcha for when you wanted to take photos of the book you’re currently reading.

It fascinated him, and he felt honored to have a special guest on his café as the owner. It made him feel proud. The longer you stayed the more he felt drawn to you and the red string, that only he seemed to notice, binding you.

Apart from the casual small talk though, you two didn’t talk too often. You‘d often look deep in thought, almost angry out the window. Once, when serving you at the table, he got a quick sheepish glance down at your journal entry. The page was messy, but he was able to read a sentence. You were rambling about your ex boyfriend and how you still longed for a for a deeper connecting. Over the weeks he grabbed a few more pieces of information. For example that you’re lonely, and that you never loved him, that you only dated him to not be alone. And now you’re alone and it’s devastating. He wasn’t able to read more, and honestly, ihr felt a bit bad for having read so much already. But then again, you never seemed to hide your journal, at least not from him. You left it openly on the table‘s edge.

    Today

Today is no different. On a tray he balances your matcha and a piece of homemade cake. Within seconds he has stolen a glance back down on your journal. There is only one sentence „You’re curious?“

His almost spilled the drink while placing it down on your table. And you? You chuckled.

Silas‘ cheeks turned red, „C-Can I get you anything else?“ he asked, trying his best to make it seem like he wasn’t just caught red handed.
