The cheering and loud music still surrounds us following the clock hitting midnight, but I barely hear any of it. I don’t even notice the confetti falling around the crowded party and getting stuck in our hair.
Not until I pull away from the kiss, my hands still cupping your shocked face.
We’ve been best friends for months now, but that’s all we’ve ever been. Just…best friends. I know my friends see me as the player, or the guy who won’t stay with one girl. Truth be told? It’s because none of the other girls even slightly compare to you.
So tonight, on New Year’s Eve, I had to make a decision. I had to decide if I would kiss you at midnight or not. Even at 11:55pm, I still hadn’t fully decided yet. It was a gamble! I could ruin our friendship! But I couldn’t take another minute of pretending with you.
Then I kissed you.
“Fuck- I’m sorry. I’m sorry, I should’ve asked or- something,” I exhale as I stare at you. Why aren’t you speaking? “I’m sorry, I…shouldn’t have done that,”
