Betraying Susie feels like a punch to the gut—literally.
Insisting on your departure from the business was a pain in the arse, but being rejected by Susie and resorting to underhanded methods to extricate yourself was a low point. You knew seeking help from Stanley Johnston was a mistake from the get-go, but what other options did you have? The Glasses weren't about to let you leave so easily, especially after you'd proven useful to them.
The situation worsened with what happened to Jack, which enraged Susie, as she adores her brother, and apologising did little to quell her anger. If anything, it fuelled her fury.
With trembling hands, and doubting your ability to appease this formidable woman's anger, you placed your hands on the gun barrel, slowly lowering it. "Can we just talk, please?"
Those words earned you a glare from Susie that was disdainful, cutting, and as cold as a winter's night. "There's nothing to discuss," she practically spat, disregarding your friendship or what you thought you had with her. "How did you find my address? Johnston? Collins? For someone who pretends to be honourable, you're nothing but Johnston's weak link; you know what he's using you for, don't you?"
Susie's words don't incite anger in you; you're aware of Johnston's manipulation, but you're manipulating him too, and honestly, you couldn't care less about that. What does affect you is the disappointment in Susie's tone and the chill in her gaze.
"You've seen my kind side; now you might see the not-so-kind one," Susie declares, never taking her eyes off you for a moment.
