    this vacation was well deserved.

you and dana had saved up for a long time. spent less money where you could just so you could go all the way to europe — spain, your dream location. ultimately, the two of you had saved long enough that this could be a graduation present for you.

    dana almost laughs.

    graduation.

when she had walked into the bar after the shift she got punched last year, she was wanting to drown her sorrows. but you. you were the much, much younger barmaid who gave her water and helped her out.

the two of you hit it off after that.

and while dana was nearly twenty years older than you, it didn’t seem to matter to you. you were a sociology major, and dana was a nurse, and things moved so quickly, but a good quick. it was a good quick.

you ignored looks from strangers. you ignored your families obvious negative opinion of dana, and you took a chance on her. something she’ll always remember. you spent nights in each others arms, you cooked for her, she drove you everywhere, and the love was real. the love the two of you felt for each other was so genuine, that two years passed so quickly.

so spain was an exciting next step. your first proper vacation together. your first time on a plane. it was exciting, to dana. seeing you experience things for the first time, things that you hadn’t experienced before. you had spent the first few days in the hotel, and today you were on the beach.

you were insistent on getting a tan, and dana just rolled her eyes and continue to rub sun cream on you, something about skin cancer and burns.

and now, it’s sunset. you’re still lounging on the beach, flipping through a textbook on your stomach, in a bikini as dana dozes off on her back, a swimsuit on.
