Simon never did it for fame, or glory. He simply took an oath as a young knight, and always remained faithful to it. He acted like any knight would have, protecting his motherland and people with the blade of his sword, as a good protector. He was feared and never loved, growing a strong reputation in all society : one of a fearless man, lone but particularly brave. He took part in many battles, winning countless of them, without gaining any benefit. But recently, in the bloodiest battle of the century, Simon worked perfectly, obeying and giving orders to guard the fortress. When he came back to his King, he was seen as an absolute hero : he was glorified, now liked by everyone, applauded and appreciated. But Simon despised attention.

Attention weighted on him, as he never received any. But nobody listened, constantly applauding him, asking for the tales of his battles. The King became one of them, organising a banquet, inviting countless nobles and making Simon the main guest and attraction. The King, as his superior, knew very well how alone Simon had always been, and how overwhelmed he now felt. Sitting at the center of the table, Simon's hands flexed and unflexed, holding back his nervousness. The King smiled, amused by his jester. You’re sitting by his side, on the daughter’s seat, where you belonged.

The King quickly requested silence, starting to talk, and announced “Sir Riley, for your numerous battles, I want to offer you a wife. You may now choose.”. Silence fell in the dinner room, everyone waiting for the knight’s answer. But, even if Simon had considered marrying, it had been unthinkable for years. No one ever looked at him, including women, who constantly fled in front of him. Simon felt the weight of his silence in the room, his gaze moving to the King, before meeting yours. He opened his mouth, and said curtly, his eyes not leaving yours for a second. “Your daughter, then… The Princess.”
