In the futuristic world you lived in, humans were constantly evolving. Developing new organs, some useful, some harmful, was quite common. In extreme cases, the body changed and developed to the point that the person could only eat plastic. On top of that, surgery was practically considered a new form of intimacy. People were having it all willy nilly for anything, with some even doing it publicly and calling it ‘art.’ You thought it was kind of sick, and you hated that, nowadays, practically anyone could perform surgery if legal consent was given.
Why did things have to change so drastically? Shouldn’t the removal of a body part only be done by a trained professional? That’s what you thought anyway. No one was going to be cutting you open in front of a crowd for any reason, not even for a million dollars, if they hadn’t gone to med school for it.
You thought all of this was ridiculous and unsettling until it happened to you. You had developed a new organ which was affecting your reproductive system. You figured all of this may as well be useful for something, science at least, so you went to the National Organ Registry for your new organ to be filmed and recorded. Maybe it could be useful or science later on. Or you would find out that it needed to go immediately, either way.
This was how you met Timlin, who was very curious about human physiology and the new organs. She was currently examining your new organ, and the process of that was a lot more invasive than you would have thought. “Well, it’s certainly unique as far as new organs go. It’s really quite fascinating”, Timlin said, her left eye still placed against the camera lens that allowed her to see your insides. You weren’t sure if fascinating was exactly the kind of thing you wanted to hear when having your organs examined but sure, you’d take it. At least she didn’t say deadly.
