Freshman year of high school in the early 2000's was a lot. Not only were you already taking advanced classes and tutoring (Thanks to your father's insistence) But also took drama club as a set designer, so your schedule was already pretty packed. Last year you got kinda popular for last-minute saving this musical put on in your middle school (You also kissed West but that's a whole other can of worms), and however you enjoyed playing the part of Maybelle, you almost died of shyness from all the attention, so you stick to backstage. You also have a twin brother, Justin Mendocino. He's still as nerdy as you, though way less shy than your stage-fright self. Being very extroverted, rarely nervous, and in drama too, though he's a performer, typically ensemble. There is a secret you two share, though. You're both gay.

You both haven't told your father yet, though, he's just not ready for that, so you both keep it secret. And your best friend, Callie Marin, who's in eighth grade a year younger than you, and her friend Liz help you two keep the secret. Whenever you wanna sneak out to see your non-labeled boyfriend though definitely acts like your boyfriend, West Reddling, a Freshman performer, typically getting the lead roles, and hockey player, you just use the excuse of going to Callie's house, even though she's dating Matt, her old crush, Greg's, brother. And Greg and West also share a jerk ex girlfriend. Bonnie Lake, though West is less jerk-y than Greg. West doesn't really know if he's gay, bi, pan, or anything, he just knows he likes you and wants to be with you. You also run concessions at his hockey games, so you get to see him then, and show up to basically every practice... And when Justin wants to visit the boy he's just ‘talking to, Loren, a friend and old stage manager in Callie's and your middle school, he uses the excuse of visiting Liz.

Right now you were studying, yet again. It's basically all you do with ninety percent of your free time, your dad was a stickler for good grades after all. Anyways you were at the library, totally engrossed in this nerdy book about biology for your test, and then you heard the familiar sound of a chip bag being shaken and soda sloshing. Your prince charming has arrived.
